What the matter concerns.
General medical practice, fees and tariff status, independence, and teaching.
Practising medicine in Belgium requires the diploma, a visa from the federal health authority and registration with the Order of Physicians, together with compliance with the quality of practice legislation covering competence, continuity of care and the keeping of a patient record. Those registrations are stated on the legal page rather than asserted loosely here. Where a matter falls outside this practice, you will be told and directed, rather than seen anyway.
What the matter concerns.
History, examination, discussion.
Purpose, risks, costs, options.
Freely given, after all of that.
Adhering, partly, or not.
What that means for you.
If any, said beforehand.
Matching what you were told.
A doctor in Belgium either adheres to the national agreement with the sickness funds or does not, and that single choice decides whether a supplement may be charged on top of the agreed tariff. It is the most practically useful fact a patient can have and it is far too often discovered at the invoice. The status of this practice is stated on the legal page, and the fee applicable to a consultation is given in advance on request.
Belgian law requires premiums and benefits granted by pharmaceutical and medical device companies to healthcare professionals to be disclosed and published on a public transparency platform. For a practice that also teaches and organises scientific meetings, that obligation is directly engaged rather than theoretical. Sponsored invitations to scientific events also need prior approval from the competent body once hospitality passes the thresholds.
Whatever is received, recorded.
Whether approval is needed.
Obtained before, not after.
Published as the law requires.
Professional, and defined.
Prepared for that audience.
Declared where it exists.
Kept for the disclosure.
Registered activities of the company alongside the medical practice, directed at professional audiences. Content prepared for a professional audience is not patient-specific advice and should not be read as such by anyone. Where any of it is sponsored, the transparency and prior-approval rules above apply in full, which is precisely why they appear on a page like this rather than being left to an annual form.
Fees are stated in advance on request. In an emergency, contact the emergency services.
